Tomorrow is "Fight Procrastination Day!" Yep - there is a day for that. Who knew? Well we did, and in honor of that we thought we should help set you up on the road to success with 3 Fool Proof Ways to Make You Love Organizing Your Catalogue.

You probably know by now that we think organization is imperative. Organization and systems establish order, structure, and a framework for accomplishing goals. We all try to incorporate systems of some kind into our every day lives, whether that be with a checkbook, filing system, or folders in our inbox. Everyone wants to get organized, so it seems like a no brainer that everyone would be. But, the truth is - most are not.

Why? You probably know most of the reasons already and that’s because you’ve probably used them before (see our post The Top 3 Reasons It’s Hard to Get (and Stay) Organized). Don’t worry, we all have. The routine offenders: 1) You don’t have the time. 2) Organizing can feel never ending and can be draining. 3) It’s a lot of hard work. 4) You don’t know where to begin.

All of these can be valid reasons, but when it comes down to it, the real culprit is usually that it’s not fun. Let me rephrase that, it’s not fun... for everyone. But, the fact of the matter is, when you aren’t organized, it’s hard to get things done, and THAT is really not fun. Organizational systems are very important and they work. Here are a couple simple tools to get you started.

Make it fun! Use organization as a time of reflection. Sometimes going through belongings can be exhausting. It may bring up old memories, both good and/or bad, but it can also be a wonderful trip down memory lane. Use it as a time of reflection on the times and accomplishments these pieces represent.

Take it one step at a time. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. This can be a big undertaking, so it's important to tackle each area, box, and collection one step at a time. This approach is far more effective than trying to do it all at once. You will see the tangible results of your efforts. And of course, make sure to congratulate yourself on your hard work when you're finished.

Celebrate! Take the time to celebrate your accomplishments. Whether that’s the accomplishment of simply going through a box of stuff you've been putting off reviewing, or celebrating all of the things you’ve uncovered in going through this process. These simple steps should be celebrated and will help you get closer to reaching your organizational goals.

Until next month!
