If a Museum Wanted to Do an Exhibit on You Tomorrow, Would YOU Be Ready?

We know that tomorrow may seem a little rushed, but the truth is, there are so many opportunities to monetize and showcase your amazing career. And when opportunity strikes, for example a museum exhibit or an enhanced experience, don’t you want to be prepared, and have the material to present for immediate consideration? We’re thinking, YES.
But, the reality is that most Artist’s are NOT prepared for these situations. They don’t have a catalogue. In fact, most haven’t even started. They don’t realize a catalogues necessity... until they do. And when they do, they realize they needed it yesterday, and by then it's too late.
It’s incredibly difficult… almost impossible, to pull together something comprehensive at a moments notice, especially when you don’t know where everything is. We know this first hand because we’ve been there, and it is not easy.
Here’s a scenario to put things into perspective.
A museum has an unexpected opening for an exhibit space at the last minute (ie… a year from now, as they usually schedule several years in advance). The curators are now scrambling to fill this space. They immediately reach out to the teams of a couple Artist’s that they would love to use as a replacement. Artist #1 thinks it’s an amazing opportunity, but it will take their team some time to find and pull everything together. Artist #2 also says they would love to be considered, and then confirms they will send over a digital copy of their collection for review later that week. While the museum might love Artist #1, maybe they like them even more than Artist #2, the fact of the matter is that the museum is on a deadline. Artist #1 is unsure what they have, while Artist #2 has the goods and is able to move forward. By consequence, the museum confirms Artist #2 for the exhibit, and tables the conversation with Artist #1 for a later date.
This is a prime example of a lost opportunity, for exposure and the ability to showcase ones legacy.
Preparation is key. Don’t take yourself out of the running, by not being prepared.
Until next month!
