Question: “But, I’m a developing Artist, why should I invest in a catalogued collection now?”

Answer: “Everyone was a developing Artist before they were established.” No one just rolls out of bed and suddenly becomes Adele, Beyonce, or Celine. Like everything, it takes time. And the more time that passes, the more stuff they acquire. The more events they go to, the more costumes they wear, the more awards they win. There is just more and more stuff.

It’s pretty daunting to think of how much stuff a major Artist can acquire throughout their career, and it’s probably even worse now, especially with clothing, as we live in a world that is built around technology where Artists are documenting their daily lives online through social media - and no outfit can be worn twice.

So what does an Artist do with all of their things? How do they manage their belongings? And how do they find pieces when they need them? Some people catalogue their belongings and some do not. However, creating a catalogued collection of what you have now, even when a collection is small and beginning to grow, can be a huge time saver in the long run. It also establishes that an Artist feels their pieces have value and helps an Artist and their team establish a framework to work off of at a moments notice when creative opportunities arise.

We promise you from first hand experience - it’s far easier to build off of a collection as you grow, then starting from scratch and establishing a cohesive collection after you have a warehouse full of years and years of unorganized boxes.

Until next month!
